Insufficient mentorship and financing are the main hindrances to the advancement of women entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, according to the results of our latest poll.
A total of 32% of respondents said lack of mentorship and support was the biggest obstacle facing women entrepreneurs, while 30% identified insufficient funding and financing as the main challenge. Lack of opportunities was also an issue (23%), followed by a lack of financial education (11%) and lack of incentives (4%).
How important is domestic tourism for H2 2022?
Domestic tourism was a saviour for South Africa’s tourism industry in the first six months of 2022. The Department of Tourism’s H1 figures show that domestic travel exceeded pre-pandemic levels, with 15.2 million tourist trips taking place from the beginning of January to the end of June.
Inbound tourism, however, is now on a buoyant recovery path, with a strong second-half outlook evidenced by forward bookings from overseas markets increasing year-on-year by 328% for August, 287% from August to October and 227% from August to January 2023.
