Babanango Valley Lodge in the new Babanango Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal’s historic Zululand region, is ready to welcome guests.
The reserve stretches over 22 000 hectares and part of the White Umfolozi River, and is only 50km from Vryheid. It is the realisation of the local communities’ dream to attract tourism and stimulate the local economy.
The four-star lodge is the first of a range of accommodation options in the reserve, and offers nine rooms with views of the Nsubeni River, which flows into the White Umfolozi.
Activities on offer include morning and evening game drives, guided birding trails, walking and mountain biking, as well as tours of the nearby historic battlefields.
Meals are complemented by a wide selection of South Africa’s best wines and the chef and his team serve breakfasts, lunches and four-course dinners in the outdoor boma. The lodge has put health and safety protocols in place for guests’ safety.
The game reserve is home to a rich diversity of wildlife and guests can expect to see giraffe, kudu, wildebeest and more plains game. Leopard occur naturally on the reserve and hippo and buffalo have been reintroduced. Bird life is also diverse with 283 species recorded.
