Wilderness Safaris is returning to Chikwenya in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park after having last operated in the area in 2006. The new Chikwenya Camp, opening on October 1, is located at the confluence of the Sapi and Zambezi Rivers on the eastern boundary of the park and overlooks the Zambezi River and Rift Valley in the distance.
Keith Vincent, CEO of Wilderness Safaris said: “Our Chikwenya site is one of the most beautiful places for a camp in southern Africa and we can’t wait to introduce the new camp to our guests, even if it’s just for a short period of time before the end of the season on November 15.”
The camp comprises six canvas tents, erected on low wooden decks linked by pine walkways. A lounge, dining and bar area are available for guests as well as a pool and fireplace.
The camp is on a private concession with a varied habitat ranging from riverine forest to grasslands. It attracts a range of wildlife including some rare birdlife.
The camp will offer safari activities, led by skilled guides including day and night game drives, nature walks, boating and catch-and-release fishing.
“Our life-changing journeys are all about purpose, ultimately ensuring that authentic and sustainable ecotourism continues to make a positive contribution to the conservation of Zimbabwe’s wilderness and wildlife and the empowerment of its people,” concluded Vincent.
For this season, guests will fly into Mana Main airstrip and drive two and a half hours to the camp. Canoeing will be introduced for the 2019 season which will open on April 1 with a new airstrip and full activities.
