While many countries have negative travel advisories in place for South Africa, those who are able to travel are making the most of the low tourist numbers and experiencing South Africa as a destination that is beautiful, safe and travel ready, says MD of Wild Wings Safaris, Onne Vegter.
While on safari recently at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge in the Little Karoo, Garden Route region, he encountered an excited group of international tourists from Lithuania and the US (Chicago).
“It was so great to see a group of international tourists again, enjoying the beauty of South Africa and confirming what we all know to be true – that South Africa is safe to visit and travel ready,” said Vegter, who obtained permission to record a short video clip to capture their impressions about the country.
One of the travellers from Lithuania can be heard encouraging others to come and visit, saying it is time to “come out of your caves”.
Vegter emphasised that South Africa’s recent COVID-19 infection rates remained low and had not shown any spike following the Easter weekend.
Noting that the South African travel industry had a world-class set of safety protocols in place to minimise the risk of infection, he highlighted that, since most of the activities on safari were conducted in wide-open outside spaces, a trip to sunny South Africa was the ideal vacation right now.
