Five top executives have left Kenya Airways this month as the shake-up of the airline’s senior management continues under the new Chief Executive Officer, Sebastian Mikosz.

Early in October, Catherine Moraa (Head of Internal Audit); Lucy Muhiu (Head of Employee Relations); Kevin Kinyanjui (Information Systems Director); and Brian Mbuti (In-flight and Jet Fuel Procurement) left the company.

Sammy Chepkwony, KQ’s Human Resource Director, said in a memo to staff that the four employees had “resigned” from their positions, even as he announced that Judith Ochieng would replace Mbuti in an acting capacity.

Following this came the announcement that Christopher Oanda, who had been the Head of Procurement, had also left the airline.

“We not only recognise the long service rendered to Kenya Airways by these colleagues, but also the various individual achievements and contributions they made over the years,” Chepkwony added.

Mikosz took over from Mbuvi Ngunze on June 1 and hired five expatriates from his former employer, LOT Polish Airlines in September as part of a restructuring plan to return the airline to profitability. They are Monika Kietyka-Michna, Edyta Kijewska-Teny, Magdalena Serwach, Marcin Celejewski and Micha Mierciak.

“As Kenya Airways is finalising the restructuring process and is about to embark on its mission to profitability, I decided to strengthen the transformation office with a team of airline professionals who have accomplished similar goals before,” said Mikosz. “The role of the new team will also be focused on training our young talent and help me improve our processes.”

They are expected to focus on boosting the revenue of KQ and improve the airline’s customer experience.
