Angama Mara, a safari lodge in Kenya perched on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, recently hosted four of the country’s best wildlife photographers and filmmakers over two weeks to capture the great migration and the reopening of travel in Kenya.
Award-winning photographer, Clement Kiragu; travel documentary maker, Josh Kosama; photographer and filmmaker, Trevor Maingi and travel and architectural photographer, Mutua Matheka made up the group.
The timing could not have been better, according to CEO of Angama, Nicky Fitzgerald. “After more than 100 days of lockdown, Kenya reopened its local and international borders just in time for the arrival of the great migration into the Mara Triangle. This has provided the photographers with the opportunity to capture the drama of the usually busy river crossings in near solitude.”
The opportunity also allowed for the showcasing of the talent of Kenyan content creators. “There is a trove of accomplished Kenyan photographers and filmmakers who deserve the same level of acclaim as their international counterparts. They also bring a unique local perspective to their work as they celebrate their home and heritage,” said Fitzgerald.
Angama Mara has been featuring the photography and footage captured by the team on its social media platforms and its ‘Leaving Out the Dull Parts’ blog.
