Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp has installed a new floor – made entirely from recycled plastic bottles – in the lodge’s main area.
Weighing in at approximately 7.6 tons the plastic bottles were collected at Lemala Camps and Lodges’ nine other properties in Tanzania.
Lemala Ngorongoro is situated in an acacia forest close to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater in Southern Tanzania and this project forms part of the brand’s over-all environmental ethos.
The tented lodge offers guests game viewing opportunities in the crater itself via early morning game drives or escorted walks along the crater rim. The lodge’s nine furnished tents, main lounge and bar are all provided 24 hour solar electricity with a back-up generator.
Lemala worked with Dunia Designs, a company which specialises in designing with recycled materials. Dunia Designs also partner with Lemala by making school desks and chairs out of plastic bottles removed from national parks and conservation areas.
