South African National Parks has announced that the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) ‘My Activity Permit’ is now available for purchase online, making it easier for travellers to obtain their permits and enjoy the activities on offer.
The permit is necessary for anyone engaging in specific recreational activities within the park. It grants permission for activities such as horse-riding, dog-walking, cycling, paragliding, hang gliding, and sport climbing.
Importantly, the permits are issued in terms of the Environmental Management Plan, which sets out the areas and trails in TMNP where the activity can take place, and determines a code of conduct that park users must abide by to protect the environment and avoid affecting other users and wildlife.
The activities requiring a permit are categorised into three levels:
- Level 1 – Dog-walking
- Level 1 – Multi User Level 1 card additional member
- Level 2 – Hang-gliding, paragliding, sport climbing
- Level 3 – Horse-riding, cycling, line fishing, and transport
- Level 3 – Additional member
For Level 3 activities such as line fishing or Marine Species Access at Cape of Good Hope (Cape Point), a valid DFFE recreational fishing permit is required.
The My Activity Permit is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, and the expiry date is indicated on the permit.
Holders of the permit are exempt from paying entrance fees at TMNP pay points when engaging in their specified activities.
