South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced its partnership with the Knysna Oyster Festival, in light of the event’s significance in not only attracting tourists, but also showcasing the natural heritage and biodiversity of South Africa.
SANParks has invited international and local visitors to join the week-long annual celebration, taking place from June 21 to 30.
“SANParks is committed to supporting initiatives that foster community engagement and promote the natural beauty and biodiversity of South Africa. The partnership with the Knysna Oyster Festival aligns with our mission to conserve South Africa’s natural heritage while encouraging sustainable tourism and recreation,” said JP Louw,
SANParks Head of Communications.
Since its inception, the festival has become a highlight of the annual events calendar, attracting thousands of people from South Africa and around the world to experience the Garden Route town’s vibrant culinary, art and sporting cultures.
Fittingly, the theme for this year will be 'a shucking good time'.
“The Knysna Oyster Festival is not just a celebration of our region’s delicious oysters but also a testament to the vibrant community spirit that defines Knysna,” said Knysna Executive Mayor, Aubrey Tsengwa. “We are thrilled to unveil an eclectic mix of events and activities that showcase the best of what Knysna has to offer.”
This year’s festival includes a great line-up catering for children, adults and senior citizens, from live music and cooking competitions to wine tastings and art and craft markets.
In addition, the festival will feature numerous community-based activities.
Traditionally, the festival has started off with the Knysna Cycle Tour. However, this year, the event begins with the 39th Knysna Forest Marathon, scheduled for June 22.
