For the month of May, only 13% of the 281 Tourism Update readers who participated in the monthly salary poll received their full salary. This is a 5% drop on the April figure which saw 18% say they had received 100% of their pay.
Another significant change is that 16% of respondents indicated that they were “unemployed due to COVID”.
This is the lowest percentage recorded since the monthly poll question launched in January. As can be gleaned from the figures below – in response to the question: “What percentage of your salary were you paid this month?” – a total of 19% indicated they were unemployed in April, 21% indicated ‘unemployed’ for March, while 18% ticked the ‘unemployed’ box in February and 23% in January.
The majority (34%) of respondents are earning somewhere between 40% and 79% of their salaries.
A total of 22% of respondents were still earning less than 19% in May while 6% were earning between 80% and 99% of their salary.
The results for May and the previous months are below.
