When Tourism Update last checked in with readers it was to ask if fears regarding the possibility of a fourth wave of COVID-19 in South Africa – as well as the discovery of new variants – were proving an obstacle to securing future bookings.
From 176 votes, 51% responded ‘to some extent’, while 28% said ‘yes’. Only 21% voted ‘no’.
Expensive and time-consuming PCR tests are now the biggest barrier to inbound travel, according to the Tourism Business Council of South Africa, which is why it is calling on government to abolish the need for PCR tests for fully vaccinated international travellers.
