“I have been following all the Tourism Update posts for the last couple of months. I am from the UK and live in England and my partner lives in South Africa.
What's been really difficult during the [COVID-19] pandemic is how any visitors to the country have been put in the category of tourism. We haven't seen each other since December and I have been waiting with a packed suitcase ready for the borders to be opened!
I am willing to do a quarantine both sides and do whatever it takes to be able to be reunited with my partner and I'm sure many others are itching to see family. I wish the government had put something in place for these kinds of situations where it was still possible to see loved ones, on the condition of tests and quarantine etc.
Now I understand that they're considering opening up African borders, but that still doesn't help people like me. I really hope they can allow global borders to open soon, even if there are restrictions in place. As someone who travels a lot, it would be nice to make that choice for myself if I wanted to deal with the travel restrictions, rather than it being a blanket ban.
I'm praying for an imminent border opening so that people like me can be reunited with loved ones.”
