The East African Community (EAC), an intergovernmental organisation comprising six East African countries, has confirmed that the first EAC Regional Tourism Expo will be held in Arusha, Tanzania. Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda will all showcase their tourism offerings at the expo from October 9-11.
The objectives of the expo are to promote East Africa as a single tourism destination, provide a platform for tourism service providers’ B2B engagements, create awareness of tourism investment opportunities, and address the challenges affecting the tourism and wildlife sectors in the region.
Under the theme ‘Promotion of Resilient Tourism for Inclusive Socio-Economic Development’, the expo will be followed by a familiarisation trip for hosted international buyers and media to some of the iconic tourist sites in the region from October 12-16.
The EAC Regional Tourism Expo will comprise exhibitions, meetings and seminars revolving around tourism resilience, digital marketing, development of multi-destination packages, and tourism investment opportunities and incentives. Beyond tourism, the expo will also address the topic ‘Combating Poaching and Illegal Wildlife Trade’.
