Responding to the article that East Africa had seen a positive turnaround in its recovery strategy for the tourism sector owing to the conscious efforts by East African Community (EAC) Partner States to work together in promoting growth in the sector, East Africa Destinations Manager for Expert Africa, Richard Trillo, wrote:

“Forgive my cynicism, but Kenya and Tanzania have a lot of bridges to repair (and build) for this to be meaningful.

Potential first-time visitors are amazed at the lack of joined-up thinking, starting with the tourism battleground that characterises the Mara River basin, where visitors have no means of travelling directly between the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the Serengeti National Park, or vice versa.

A good market-facing start would be for both countries to abolish tourist visas.”
