The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent global travel restrictions have severely impacted a number of industry associations and their members.
In response to the Tourism Update article highlighting how certain associations had been impacted, MICE Academy’s Helen Brewer agreed that this was an unfortunate time for member associations within the travel industry.
She noted that although there was the same situation within the various MICE associations – of which there are an inordinate amount for a country the size of South Africa – there was a ray of hope.
“The MICE Academy, which represents end-user MICE buyers, contends that many positives will emerge once the new normal is accelerated. An association's purpose and added-value to members will be the order of the day as networking alone is unlikely to cut it. The shake-up is overdue,” commented Brewer.
