Botswana is expecting its first batch of COVID vaccines to arrive at the end of this month.

The Director Public Health, Dr Malebogo Kebabonye, said the government had set up more than 700 vaccination centres country-wide and planned to complete vaccinations by December.

President Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi said the government planned to vaccinate the entire nation, with frontline workers the first to get the vaccine.

Tourism has been badly affected by the pandemic, with travel restrictions in place to help limit the spread of the virus, but it is hoped the vaccine will eventually help the sector to start again.

Botswana’s border remains open, however movement within the country is limited. The government recently extended a curfew until February 28, with no movement allowed between 20h00 and 04h00.
