Lufthansa’s frequent flyer programme, Miles & More, has integrated the Lufthansa Group’s CO₂ compensation platform into its app, making it easy for travellers to track and offset their carbon emissions.
The new feature is not only available for all flights by Lufthansa Group airlines, but also for Star Alliance and joint-venture partners with whom the customer has earned or used Mile & More miles.
Mindfulflyer was developed jointly by the Lufthansa Innovation Hub and Miles & More. Customers can see the CO₂ emissions of their flight on the app and offset them with just a few clicks.
They can either offset their CO₂ by using their miles or euros to support certified reforestation projects or the use of sustainable aviation fuel. For their commitment to climate protection, customers will receive digital awards. The awards can be shared on social media to inspire other travellers to compensate for their flights too.
"The CO₂ compensation of a flight should not be complicated. With the new 'mindfulflyer' service, our passengers can see the CO₂ emissions of their flight at a glance and can now offset them easily and quickly, even using miles. We want to actively promote sustainable behaviour," said Lufthansa Group Executive Board Member for Customer, IT & Corporate Responsibility, Christina Foerster.
"Customer loyalty without sustainability no longer works. Our customers expect solutions from us that enable climate-friendly travel," said MD of Miles & More, Sebastian Riedle. “With the integration of the 'mindfulflyer' offer we are fulfilling this expectation while making climate-neutral travel as simple as possible."
The Lufthansa Innovation Hub created the first CO₂ compensation offer within the Lufthansa Group with Compensaid in 2019. The integration of Compensaid into the Miles & More app will significantly increase visibility for the platform.
"We are very pleased that our new compensation option has now become available in the Miles & More app. This way we are giving even more customers access to sustainable travel and demonstrating how digital technology can be used to make this easier and more transparent," said MD of the Lufthansa Innovation Hub, Gleb Tritus.
