Yesterday, October 14, Airlink announced the start of three new regional services. The privately owned airline has been steadily and purposefully rolling out flights in the region, some new routes for the carrier, others a resumption of old routes, since cross-border air travel restarted.

The carrier’s new scheduled passenger service between Maputo and Johannesburg reconnects Mozambique and South Africa following the lifting of travel restrictions between the two countries.

It has also resumed flights between South Africa and Zambia with passenger services from Joburg to Lusaka and Ndola.

“Airlink is proud and excited to be launching this brand-new service [Maputo] and adding it to our growing Southern Africa route network. Although we have begun flights to Maputo, we plan to add more Mozambican destinations to our schedule in the coming days,” said Airlink MD and CEO, Rodger Foster.

Flight 4Z 272 departs Johannesburg at 13h45 on Wednesdays and Fridays, arriving in Maputo at 14h40. Return flight 4Z 273 departs Maputo at 15h15, arriving in Johannesburg at 16h25.

The Zambia flights are presently three a week to Lusaka and two a week to Ndola. Flight 4Z 162 departs Johannesburg at 11h20 and arrives in Lusaka at 13h20 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Flight 4Z 163 departs Lusaka at 13h50 and arrives in Johannesburg at 16h05.

Flight 4Z 152 departs Johannesburg at 10h20 and arrives in Ndola at 12h40 on Wednesdays and Fridays. Flight 4Z 153 departs Ndola at 13h10 and arrives in Johannesburg at 15h45.

Economy-class passengers on these regional routes get 20kg free checked-in luggage allowance plus a 15kg sporting equipment allowance.  Airlink’s intra-continental business-class service is available on selected flights operated by Embraer E-jets, with wide seats arranged in a two-one abreast configuration. Business class includes meals and beverages, a 30kg check-in luggage allowance and priority boarding.
