A hotel in Africa’s richest square-mile had the pleasure of hosting a special visitor this week, who caused quite a commotion.

A large male baboon casually settled into a room on the 10th floor of the Capital on the Park Hotel in Sandton on November 11.

This was after he enjoyed a lovely tour of the northern suburbs of Johannesburg, where residents spotted him roaming the residential areas of Bryanston, Fourways and Sandton.

Cora Bailey, from the Community Led Animal Welfare organization, had been tracking the baboon’s movements in an attempt to trap it and posted updates on her Facebook page. “What were the chances that this baboon was going to enter the only vacant room in the hotel? But he did!” she wrote.

Hotel staff were stressed but accommodated the baboon with the utmost professionalism. They prepared a delicious buffet placed in a trap just to entice their furry tenant.

Thankfully, the baboon was safely captured at the hotel and is going to be released into the wild.
