Ubuntu Beds and First Rand SPIRE fund are collaborating with accommodation, transport and catering providers and suppliers and key private- and public-sector hospitals to assist in South Africa’s COVID-19 response.

Ubuntu Beds is an initiative spearheaded by Khwela Academy, a non-profit company that aims to unite hospitality businesses that now stand empty, with healthcare workers who are fighting the virus on the frontlines.

The project helps healthcare workers to relieve their travel time and flatten the curve by avoiding contamination between them and their loved ones.

Several workers have already been welcomed at accommodation establishments and some properties have already offered rooms free or at lower rates.

Hospitality and accommodation businesses are encouraged to participate by going to the Ubuntu Beds website and registering their property.
