The board and executive management of SA Express (SAX) has refuted certain claims made in a City Press article dated February 23.

The airline issued a statement wishing to “correct inaccuracies” in the article, which included a claim that SAX owes creditors R2.7billion, when the number is in fact below R1 billion following the steps it has taken in reducing legacy debt.

SAX Divisional Manager: Marketing, Brand & Product, Mpho Majatladi, pointed out
that “continuous reporting about false and defamatory information” minimised the capabilities of the current board and executive management.

“This creates doubt and confusion in the minds of our customers and the public, and it is incredibly troubling,” she said.

The airline further accused “irregular creditors” of hindering the current board’s ability to reinstate governance structures within SAX.
