Event organisers are hoping to break the world record for the most spectators to watch a single tennis match at the exhibition match to be between multiple-Grand-Slam winners, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Hosted at Cape Town Stadium this Friday (February 7), the match will be held in support of the Roger Federer Foundation to raise funds for children’s education in Africa.
Spectators will also witness an exhibition match between South African host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah and Microsoft founder, Bill Gates.
Noah took to twitter with a good-humoured taunt, saying that when the doubles match is played (Federer and Gates versus Nadal and Noah) he expected the South African crowd to be on his side.
Hey @RogerFederer, you & @billgates want to play doubles against me & @RafaelNadal!? Okay. We accept your challenge, but be prepared for the crowd in SA to be on our side! See you Feb 7 in Cape Town! Masihambe! #MatchInAfrica— Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) January 29, 2020
“This event is a wonderful initiative that aims to give back to those less fortunate and, as the City of Cape Town, we are more than happy to lend our support, especially to a cause that seeks to develop young people,” said the City of Cape Town’s (CoCT) Executive Mayor, Dan Plato.
