Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens in Cape Town is hosting its annual Winter Wonders special, where families get the chance to explore the gardens and learn about indigenous flora.

Children under 17 get free entry and can take part in the kids’ programme, which includes drumming, arts and crafts, slime-making, movies, rides and more, at the Moyo Kirstenbosch Restaurant.

There are guided or unguided tours that start at the Conservatory, consisting of the main house with a baobab tree growing in the centre, and four corner houses each representing an ecological region of southern Africa. It then heads along Tree Canopy Walkway, where there are birds and life-sized dinosaurs hidden throughout the Cycad Amphitheatre.

During the tour guests can view the different species of proteas and visit a number of gardens, including the Useful Plants Garden, Fragrance Garden and Sculpture Garden.

Kirstenbosch is open every day from 08h00-18h00 in winter. It is located on Rhodes Drive, Newlands.
