Sanctuary Retreats recently completed a redesign of its Sanctuary Kusini Camp, the only permanent camp in the remote south of Serengeti in Tanzania.
Sanctuary Kusini Camp, designed to have minimal environment impact, overlooks predator-populated plains where game viewing is plentiful throughout the year.
The camp’s 12 restyled open-plan en-suite tents feature wooden floors, neutral tone and shades of green, complementing the natural African setting. The spacious tents are shaded from the sun by acacia trees; with each tent has views of the bush, making it an ideal spot for casual game viewing.
Each tent features mosquito netting, hairdryers and an in-room safe .A large wooden verandah with comfortable furnishings extends in front of each tent, with many having views of the plains below.
The camp’s communal areas include a dining area, lounge, and library as well as the campfire area.
The main lodge is set around a cluster of kopjes (rocky outcrops), providing guests not only a front-row seat when the Great Migration passes through, but game congregating on the grassy plains year-round.
Sanctuary Kusini Camp also offers bush picnics, as well as sunsets, cocktails and snacks on top of the main kopje just behind the main area.
Guests are invited to help track cheetah in one of the few remaining natural ecosystems where the fastest land animal exists. Sanctuary Kusini, together with its guests, work closely with the Serengeti Cheetah Project to help monitor the demographics and activity of these wild cats.
Other activities at the camp include game drives and cosmic safaris at night, an interesting journey into the African night skies, viewing the stars above the Serengeti.
