The 4Roomed eKasi Cultural Township Development Drive will launch in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on April 27, bringing together a number of players in the Khayelitsha tourism industry in a new township experience. Guests will choose an experience, which will be followed by a four-course fine-dining meal, presented by Programme Organiser, Abigail Mbalo, at Look Out Hill, Khayelitsha.

Mbalo told Tourism Update that guests would be able to choose from a range of experiences. These include a township tour run by Khayelitsha Travel, a visit to the Makukhunye Art Room, a bicycle tour run by Sporting Code in collaboration with Ride2Empower, a township gardens and art tour run by Khayelitsha resident, Juma Mkwela, or a tour of the 18 Gangsters Museum.

The meal will pair a fine-dining experience with an upbeat township vibe. Mbalo comments: “Each course will have an element of township cuisine presented in a fine-dining way. We want to ask the world to please come and see what we’re doing, sit down with us and enjoy a meal and a conversation.”

Mbalo hopes that the Development Drive will assist in curating the existing gems within Khayelitsha’s growing tourism industry. It is also hoped that it will inspire and encourage more people to explore the tourism industry and Mbalo’s aim is for this initiative to be the starting point for development within the Khayelitsha tourism industry.
