Norman Wallace has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of aha Hotels & Lodges, a division of Tourvest Accommodation and Activities (TAA).
He spent 33 years with Tsogo Sun, retiring in 2016 after 18 years as Operations Director, responsible for managing the hotel group’s properties in Africa, the Seychelles, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Since then he has run his own consultancy, advising hotel property owners on new or repositioned projects.
Neil Bald, CEO of aha welcomed Wallace to the team and wished him a long and successful career with the business.
TAA CEO Gary Elmes said Tourvest would start to look at how best to benefit from the various systems within its hotel and lodge operations throughout Southern and East Africa. He said this could involve consolidation across the Tourvest lodge and hotel operations.
Miranda Evangelou has been appointed new Group Sales and Marketing Manager at Faircity Hotels and Apartments.
She began her journey in travel in 2006 when she joined the timeshare industry and then moved on to Flight Centre in 2007. Evangelou moved up to Store Manager within eight months. After spending a few months at Fusion Boutique Hotel as Sales Executive, she was head hunted by Extrabold where she took on the role as Sales Manager for two of its Sandton-based hotels.
Evangelou then went on to work at Kievits Kroon Estate and Spa, Extraordinary Hotel Group and, most recently, worked at Forever Resorts South Africa, where she managed a team to support 22 properties within the portfolio.
She commented: “Keep an eye out in the coming months; you will definitely see a lot more of Faircity out there in 2018.”
The InterContinental Hotels Group recently made three new senior appointments across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) regions.
Bastien Blanc was appointed VP Operations: Middle East. Nicolas Craninx has been appointed Director: Hotel Performance Support – Africa and Matthew Tripolone will take on the role of VP: Development – MEA.
