TOURISM Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk is said to have emerged as a front runner for the post of the United Nations' new climate chief.
According to a report in this week's Mail and Guardian, a government official has allegedly confirmed that talks to this effect are a preliminary phase.
States the report: " During his tenure as environment minister, Van Schalkwyk won considerable respect in the UN's climate change negotiations."
Editor's note: Do you think Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk is suited to take the UN role? Who do you think would be a suitable replacement and why? Make your comments in the box below.

UN position for Marthinus
Henrie Van Schalkwyk
08 Mar 2010
Yes, I think he is a very good candidate for the UN position. The problem is where does it leave SA. We might end up with some incompetent person to fullfill this important role of Tourism Minister, therefore shooting ourselves in the foot. Henrie van Schalkwyk

He is an ANC putz, you can't trust him as far as you can throw him. All he knows is how to suck up.

Marthinus van Schalkwyk has been responsible for allowing tourism numbers to be totally inflated by counting day workers from neighbouring countries as tourists. This should stand him in good stead for producing figures that show carbon offsetting is working when it plainly does not. Look at www.cheatneutral.com to see how you can offset being unfaithful by paying someone else to be faithful
van Schalkwyk & the UN...Made for each other!

Marthinus van Schalkwyk and the climate debate are one in the same, a fabricated farce. The recent investigations and admissions to the fact that most (if not all) of the "global-warming" climate claims are and have been, fabricated for personal and professional gain, is part and parcel verbatem of what Van Schalkwyk has been as SA Environment Minister. He bloviated his way into a position of authority and power, and used same as his personal "bully pulpit". He has accomplished nothing more than draw a big salary and promote the "carbon credits" farce invented by none other than the biggest bloviator and farce of them all, Al Gore. Both men are a "joke".
