African Shark Eco-Charters has become the third shark diving company to receive Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) certification.

The company operates from Simon’s Town, approximately 40 minutes from Cape Town, and offers an ocean-based experience that provides insight into Great White shark predation, breaching, viewing and cage diving.

The FTTSA certification mark signals that these three businesses are run in an environmentally and socially responsible manner and that staff and communities linked to the operation receive tangible and positive benefits from tourism.

A statement released by FTTSA said that not only did African Shark Eco-Charters demonstrate a commitment towards operating in an environmentally responsible manner, but also complied with marine and coastal management requirements and regulations.

African Shark Eco-Charters offers ongoing, systematic education about Great White shark conservation to staff and guests. In addition the company belongs to The Great White Shark Protection Foundation and supports the shark spotters Shark Safety Programme by volunteering the use of their boats to assist in improving beach safety for swimmers in the False Bay area.
